North Star is lucky to host many qualified and talented volunteers, interns, and work-study students in addition to our core staff.

In March, 2013 Catherine Gobron and Mauricio Abascal led a service trip to Nicaragua with 13 North Star teens.

North Star is a non-profit and so has a board of directors. Our board meets monthly to discuss various financial matters, outreach, and other strategic issues. If you are interested in joining our board or attending a meeting, please let us know.

We are located at 135 Russell St. in Hadley MA in a beautiful, historic building.

The North Star Players are directed by staff member Ellen Morbyrne and alum Nia Steiner and they are awesome.

In March of 2011 North Star teens traveled to the Dominican Republic to volunteer at an orphanage in Santo Domingo. We had a wonderful and powerful experience.

The SHINDIG is our end-of-year party. We have a yummy potluck, celebrate and applaud the year and the members who are moving on, and then some of the many talented teens in our community step up and show their stuff. A good time!

In March of 2009 North Star teens traveled to Roatan, Honduras to volunteer with the Roatan Marine Park. We became certified scuba diver and learned so much about coral reefs and marine park management.

In 2008 North Star teens traveled to Vieques, Puerto Rico to volunteer with the Peace and Justice Camp. The Peace and Justice camp, led by Robert Rabin and Nilda Medina, are responsible for organizing the 4 years of non-violent protest that resulted in the withdrawal of the US Navy.

In March of 2007 North Star teens traveled to Costa Rica to volunteer with Cloudbridge, a sustainable forestry and scientific research organization.

In May of 2006, North Star teens traveled to New Orleans to volunteer with Emergency Communities. We spent a week helping to distribute clothing and serve 3 meals per day to 1500 local residents struggling in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
